I am generally somebody who likes to try out pretty much every social media platform at least once. I’ve been on Twitter since 2009, was on Xing before LinkedIn became a thing, tried Myspace, Facebook, Tiktok, Tumblr, Instagram, etc., etc. – you get the picture. I probably even still have accounts on a bunch of those and more. (Anybody remember Elo?)
For some reason, I missed the boat on the Fediverse, which is basically a decentralized, user-driven Twitter. If you haven’t heard of it, you probably have heard Mastodon, or Counter.social. Those are two of the many Fediverse servers you can join. Each one has its own rules which you accept when joining, much like Reddit’s subs.

When the previous chapter of the latest Twitter saga started in April, I attempted to rectify this oversight. I wasn’t the only one, so a lot of servers closed for new users, and I ended up on Mastodon itself as the default – which was okay to start out.

Today, I had another look to see whether I could get on my preferred server, the Wandering Shop. It is still invitation only, but the admin was super-friendly and welcoming, as are the users there. So if your are in the Fediverse, you can now also find me there on @chbieck@wandering.shop. See you around!
